3D art students did a fantastic job creating these 3D letters. Students chose one of their initials and used cardboard, plastic cups, tape and plaster to make them three-dimensional. They painted their letters with symbols that represent themselves. Love these! Great job everyone.

Sixth grade students started their Egyptian art unite by reading an article in Scholastic Art Magizine. In the article they learned about the Egyptian's beliefes about the after life and the art associated with those beliefes. After discussing the article students created their own Egyptian cartonnages based on the reading.
Sixth grade students learned about positive and negative space for this project. Then they chose an animal and drew the outline of the animal. Next they chose either the positive or negative space to draw patters in. Nice work sixth grade artists!
8th grade students learned how to create a color wheel using only the primary colors to mix the secondary and tertiary colors. Students also created a tint and shade for each color and incorporated each colors compliment into the object they drew in each section.
Sixth grade art students finished their color theory leaf project. We also have a new artist of the month for November. Congratulations to Adriana Turner for her hard work and being artist of the month! For this project students learned how to read the color wheel to understand basic color relationships. We focused on primary, secondary, tertiary, warm, cool and complimentary colors. The four sections of their leaf project are complimentary colors, warm colors, cool colors and primary colors where the leaves overlap to create the secondary colors.
We are finishing up our elements of art collaborative poster projects and they look great! It's so exciting to be back in the classroom for the 2016/17 school year! Students have been hard at work on our first project learning about the elements of art. This year students are working collaboratively (in groups of 3 or 4) on a poster demonstrating their understanding of the elements of art. The elements of art are line, shape, color, form, texture, value and space. Each day I introduce the class to one or two new elements and then they work together to show those elements on their poster. Here are some pictures of our progress.
